Podcast: L.A. Rams High School Coach of the Year Matt Castaneda of Diamond Bar High School

It took Matt Castaneda only one year to turn around the fortunes of the Diamond Bar Brahmas football program.

In 2021, Castaneda's first year coaching the program, the Brahmas finished with a 5-7 record. But this past fall, Diamond Bar finished with a 12-2 record and made it to the CIF-Southern Section Division 9 final before losing to Laguna Beach 36-28.

After the successful 2022 campaign, Castaneda was named the Los Angeles Rams High School Coach of the Year.

Castaneda told High School Football America’s Jeff Fisher he’s proud of being a part of restoring the rich football tradition at Diamond Bar.

Washington Commanders President Jason Wright played for the Brahmas (Class of 2000). As the team’s running back, Wright led Diamond Bar to back-to-back section championships in 1998 and 1999.

Below, you can listen to Fisher’s complete interview with Coach Castaneda. They discuss a wide variety of topics, including how the program accomplished the turnaround.
