Former NFL All-Pro Marcus Peters Succeeds His Father as McClymonds Head Coach

Former two-time NFL All-Pro cornerback and three-time Pro Bowl selection Marcus Peters is the new head football coach at his alma mater, McClymonds High School in Oakland, California.

The hire marks a full-circle moment for Peters, who takes over for his father, Michael Peters, following the longtime coach’s retirement after a highly successful 13-year run as head coach.

McClymonds has long been a small-school powerhouse in Northern California under Michael Peters, who spent 33 years on the Warriors’ staff. During his time as head coach, McClymonds compiled a 142-24 record and won five state championships.

Marcus Peters has already been around the program, serving as a voluntary assistant at McClymonds over the last couple of years.

Peters was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He was named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 and earned All-Pro honors in his second season with Kansas City before receiving the honor again in 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams.

During his nine-year NFL career, which also included stops with the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders, Peters recorded 33 interceptions, seven of which were returned for touchdowns.
