Thompson Ranked No. 1 in Preseason HSFA Alabama Top 10 High School Football Rankings

Alabama will see a rarity this year: Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn will play his fifth year of varsity football. Seaborn, who started as an eighth grader for the Warriors, will be looking for his fourth state title as the team’s primary signal caller.

Seaborn, who is also an excellent student and a three-time High School Football America Academic All-American, enters his senior season with more than 10,100 passing yards, 103 touchdowns and only 23 interceptions. He has given his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.

With Seaborn at the helm, Thompson starts the year No. 1 in the Preseason HSFA Alabama Top 10 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. On the national scene, the Warriors are ranked No. 16 in the HSFA 300.

Reigning 6A champ Clay-Chalkville enters the year at No. 2. The Cougars are looking for their fourth state crown in the last six years. Thompson and Clay-Chalkville will meet on August 28, with the Cougars riding a three-game win streak against the 7A power. Nationally, Clay-Chalkville is ranked No. 45.

Rounding out Alabama’s national Top 50 representatives is Central (Phenix City), which opens at No. 3 in the state and No. 49 nationally. The Red Devils welcome a new head coach this year, with Cody Flournoy taking over the program after Patrick Nix’s retirement. Nix is the father of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, who was HSFA’s national Player of the Year in 2018.

Below is the complete Top 10, including where each team ranks in the HSFA 300 national rankings.
