High School Football America 100: Three Top Teams Lose Week 5 Matchups

Five weeks into the high school football season, the only thing certain is nothing is for certain.

This past weekend was another topsy-turvy one, with three Top-25 teams losing for the first time this year and shaking up the High School Football America 100, powered by NFL Play Football.

No. 7 Gonzaga (Washington, DC) was the highest-ranked team to lose. The Eagles were beaten soundly by No. 49 St. Joseph's Prep (Pennsylvania) by a 35-7 margin. St. Joseph's, the three-time defending Pennsylvania 6A champs, rebounded after a loss to Milton (Georgia) last week and moved up to No. 47. Gonzaga dropped to No. 55.

No. 12 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) lost in dramatic fashion as Hamilton (Arizona) scored three times in the final 65 seconds to shock the Gaels 25-24. Hamilton climbed from No. 46 to No. 20 this week, and Gorman slipped nine spots to No. 21.

Through the first five weeks of the season, 12 of the Preseason Top 100 have suffered losses.

New to the Top 25 this week is St. Peter's Prep (New Jersey) at No. 23. The Marauders are a perfect 4-0 after beating previously unbeaten Seton Hall Prep 22-21 in double overtime.

There are four new teams this week in the HSFA 100 — Greenville Christian (Mississippi) at No. 89, Katy Tompkins (Texas) at No. 98, Bartram Trail (Florida) at No. 99, and Carmel (Indiana) at No. 100.
