Interview: NFL Legend Bobby Taylor Talks About Girls’ Flag High School Football Coming to El Paso, Texas

With the support of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, girls’ flag high school football is coming to El Paso’s Region 19 later this month. Spearheading the pilot program, with nearly 40 teams, is former NFL Pro Bowl cornerback Bobby Taylor, a Texas native, who’s had a big hand in the growth of the sport nationwide.

The overall goal of pilot programs, like the one in El Paso, is to lead to the sport becoming officially sanctioned in the Lone Star State. Across the country, 14 states have already sanctioned high school girls’ flag as an official varsity sport.

El Paso’s league play begins April 28 with the championships set for May 19-22.

In addition to the El Paso area, the Cowboys have launched pilot programs in Dallas/Fort Worth and the Austin areas. The Texans are in Year 3 of their high school girls’ flag programs throughout the Houston area.
