NFL Legend Dave Logan Wins Tenth Colorado High School Football Championship
With one more high school state title, NFL Legend Dave Logan will face a problem. He won't have any more room on his fingers for a championship ring.
Logan capped off the 2021 season by winning his tenth Colorado state championship when his Cherry Creek High School Bruins secured a 21-0 victory over Valor Christian on December 4, 2021.
It's the school's third straight 5A title and its 12th overall championship, including four with Logan at the helm as head coach.
With the victory, Logan tied Limon High School’s Lloyd Gaskill for most state titles in Colorado's history. Logan is also the only coach in the U.S. to win titles at four different high schools.
Cherry Creek hoisted the championship trophy in a familiar setting for Logan — Empower Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos. Along with coaching, Logan is the radio play-by-play announcer for the Broncos.
The Colorado native-turned nine-year NFL wide receiver was selected in the third round of the 1976 NFL Draft and spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns. He retired after the 1984 season with the Denver Broncos, and has been a fixture in Denver since. Logan ended his playing career with 263 catches for 4,250 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Logan began his coaching career in 1993 at Arvada West High School. He won his first state title there in 1997. He then moved-on to Chatfield in 2000, winning the state championship in 2001. From 2003 through 2011, Logan coached Mullen to four titles, including a three-peat from 2008-2010. He is pictured above during the last of those three 5A championship games.
Since taking over at Cherry Creek in 2012, Logan has won state titles in 2014, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Earlier this year, Logan was inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations Hall of Fame.
By beating Valor Christian, Cherry Creek moved up to No. 64 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. And as Logan explained to HSFA's Jeff Fisher in the video below, this year’s championship is especially rewarding because the Bruins only returned three starters on offense and one on defense.
