Reigning High School Football State Champions Heading Into 2022

High School Football America presents the defending high school football champions in all 50 states.

Tennessee's Alcoa High School enters 2022 with the long active state championship streak in America. The Tornadoes won their seventh straight state championship in 2021, finishing the season ranked at No. 69 in the 2021 High School Football America 100 rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

The all-time record is 14 consecutive high school state championships. St. Louis in Hawaii won those state championships between 1986 and 1999.

Sioux Falls Washington High School is also credited with 14 straight South Dakota state championships between 1951 and 1964, although those titles were conferred by a media poll or another source.

Riverheads High School (VA), with less than 450 students, heads into 2022 having won six straight Virginia 1A titles. The Gladiators have won 50 straight games, the longest active streak in the nation.

Southern Columbia (PA) have won five straight state 2A titles. They also accomplshed that feat from 2002 through 2006.

T.F. Riggs also won a fifth straight South Dakota high school football state championship last season.

Bryant High School in Arkansas enters the upcoming season with four straight 7A titles, becoming the only Arkansas 7A team to accomplish that feat.

The Bixby Spartans (OK) also have four consecutive state championships, and are currently riding a 49-game win streak, the second-longest in the nation.

Thirteen teams across the nation are defending a three-peat:

  • Anadale (Kansas)
  • Buford (Georgia)
  • Catholic Central (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
  • Cherry Creek (Colorado)
  • Harding Academy (Arkansas)
  • McCallie (Tennessee)

  • Mill Valley (Kansas)
  • Pulaski Academy (Arkansas)
  • Springfield Central (Massachusetts)
  • St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida)
  • Thompson (Alabama)
  • Westlake (Austin, Texas)

Alaska's Soldotna High School saw its streak of eight straight state titles come to an end with a 39-28 loss to Lathrop in last year's Division II championship game.

Dutch Fork's streak of five straight South Carolina 5A titles was also snapped last season with their loss to Gaffney. And in Arizona, Chandler's five-year championship streak came to a close at the hands of Saguaro in the Open Division title game.
