Atlanta Falcons Release Video 'Road to a Championship | A Girls Flag Football Story'

The Atlanta Falcons recently released an inspiring video titled "Road to a Championship - A girls flag football story", spotlighting the dramatic journey of high school girls' flag football in Georgia. Posted on the team's YouTube Channel on February 4, it coincided with National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

The approximately 15-minute documentary-style video follows two standout high school teams — Blessed Trinity and Milton — as they battle for the Georgia Division 4 state championship. Six years after girls' flag football became a sanctioned sport in Georgia, they squared off in an intense showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Falcons. The title game went into double overtime, delivering a thrilling finish that underscores the talent, determination, and rising popularity of the sport.

Blessed Trinity won the state title with a 21-20 win. It was the school's second girls' flag title in the last four years.

The Falcons have been instrumental in flag football's progress in Georgia for nearly a decade. Starting with early efforts to promote girls' flag football, the NFL team helped push for its sanctioning by the Georgia High School Athletic Association.

In addition to hosting championships at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the organization has provided grants and resources to high schools. In recent years, they've expanded support through $10,000 startup grants for high school programs. They also host clinics for all ages and events like their college showcase to give Georgia student-athletes exposure at the college level.

This week, the team is holding its inaugural Atlanta Falcons Girls Flag Football Week (February 15–21), a new tradition featuring clinics, competitions, and the 2026 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game at the team's IBM Performance Field in Flowery Branch. The all-star event includes about 60 top players in a four-team tournament, with special guest Diana Flores, Mexico's national flag football quarterback and an NFL Global Ambassador.
