High School Football America's Preseason Top 100 for 2021

Two-time defending national champ Mater Dei (Santa Ana, California) begins the season as the No. 1 team in the High School Football America 100 national rankings.

The Monarchs won back-to-back HSFA national titles in 2017 and 2018. Led by legendary head coach Bruce Rollinson, who owns 315 lifetime high school football coaching victories, Mater Dei is coming-off a perfect 5-0 spring season. There wasn’t a postseason in California due to COVID-19 protocols.

Falling in behind Mater Dei at No. 2 is two-time defending Texas high school football state champ Westlake High (Austin, Texas).

The Chaparrals are led by head coach Todd Dodge, who has won six state championships. Last month, Dodge announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2021 high school football season.

No. 3 Thompson (Alabaster, Alabama) will be going after a third straight Class 7A title this season. Head coach Mark Freeman brings a lifetime record of 223-51 in 22 seasons as a head coach. Freeman has won four Alabama High School Athletic Association state championships to go along with four state titles in the Alabama Independent School Association.

Florida-power St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) checks-in the preseason national rankings at No. 4. The Raiders have won back-to-back Class 7A state championships. STA had 11 alumni in the NFL at the start of the season, most of any high school.

Rounding out the top five is IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida), winners of the 2020-21 national championship. It was the Ascenders' first-ever national crown.

During the offseason, IMG promoted NFL Legend Pepper Johnson from defensive coordinator to head coach. Johnson won two Super Bowls during his 13-year NFL career.

Overall, Texas leads the way with 19 teams in the HSFA 100, followed by Florida with 15. Georgia has the third most teams in the Top 100 with nine.

Powered by NFL Play Football, the High School Football America 100 is created using HSFA’s proprietary algorithm.
