HSFA Top 100: There's a New Number 1 in the National Rankings

For the first time this year, there’s a new No. 1 team in the High School Football America 100 national rankings.

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida) moves to the top of the heap after two-time defending Texas champ North Shore was beaten in the Class 6A Division I state semifinals. North Shore had spent the entire season at No. 1 prior to its loss on Saturday to Westlake, which moves from No. 7 to No. 4 in the latest rankings.

Westlake will play Southlake Carroll in next week’s championship game at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The Dragons move from No. 24 to No. 10 after beating former No. 8 Duncanville.

This is the first time that IMG Academy has ever risen to No. 1 in the HSFA Top 100. This year, the Ascenders beat four HSFA 100 teams — No. 11 Duncanville, No. 46 Northwestern (Florida), No. 67 Edgewater (Florida) and No. 94 Venice (Florida).

This weekend will mark the next-to-last weekend of the 2020 high school football season that has run into 2021. Texas will hold its four 6A and 5A championship games this weekend at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

Michigan will play its 8-Man championship games this weekend along with its 11-man state semifinals. Next weekend, Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, will host the Michigan 11-man championships.
