Interview: NFL Legend Reggie White Talks About Winning Maryland High School Football Championship as a Player and a Coach
Milford Mill Academy loves NFL Legend Reggie White and the former defensive lineman for the San Diego Chargers and England Patriots loves the school back.
After retiring from the National Football League, the former 6th round NFL Draft pick returned to his alma mater to coach its football program and teach mathematics. Two years ago, White led the Millers to a Maryland 2A high school football title. That gold medal matches the one he won as a player at MMA in 1987. Those are the only two football championships ever won by the Baltimore-area school.
A highlight of White’s professional career was when he played in Super Bowl XXIX for the Chargers against the San Francisco 49ers.
Last month, the Big 33 Football Classic named Coach White as this year’s honorary chairman. The Big 33 game, played in Pennsylvania, is known as the Super Bowl of high school football all-star games. That’s because there’s never been a Super Bowl without a Big 33 alum.
Below White talks with High School Football America’s Jeff Fisher about his love of coaching at his alma mater and the thrill of being honored by the Big 33 Football Classic.
White also jokes about the fun of being known as the other Reggie White. He recalls the first time he was on the same field as the late Pro Football Hall of Famer.
