Teddy Bridgewater Heads Back to NFL After Winning Florida High School Football Championship
Almost three weeks after being suspended as head coach of Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida, Teddy Bridgewater is heading back to the National Football League. Tuesday, the 10-year NFL vet was signed to a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last December, Bridgewater led Northwestern to a 3A state championship in his first year as the head coach at his alma mater.
The Bucs’ signing ends a three-week saga that began with Bridgewater going on Facebook to ask supporters for help with some of the money he spent on his players in 2024. The expenses for his players included: Uber rides, pregame meals and athletic recovery services.
In the middle of July Bridgewater was suspended by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) for providing “impermissible benefits” to his players.
Northwestern starts the season ranked No. 23 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football.
Bridgewater was a 4-star recruit during his time with Northwestern. During his three years as a starter at Northwestern, he threw for over 6,700 yards with 70 touchdowns while rushing for 15 more as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation.
After starring at the University of Louisville, Bridgewater was selected as the 32nd overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft.
This will be Bridgewater’s 11th professional season and his seventh NFL team. For his career he’s thrown for more than 15,000 yards with 75 touchdowns.
